Staff of the new sub-acute unit at Western Hospital were given an orientation and welcome day on Friday 11 February 2011. The new unit will support a sub-acute model of care for rehabilitation or geriatric evaluation and management patients that may still need access to specialist medical or surgical care. It will have 10 rehabilitation beds and 10 GEM beds, and will be supported by a seven day per week allied health service.
