Patients at Sunshine Hospital Children's Ward have a new reason to smile after receiving $1500 in gifts from charity Games 4 Kids.
Along with their mascot 'Manifest', the charity attended the ward on Thursday 17 June to present the children with a 32-inch television, Nintendo Wii and gaming equipment. The children were very excited about the new toys and were eager to try them out straight away.
Western Health graduate nurse Tiffany Coles, also a volunteer for Games 4 Kids, was more than happy to help organise the donation. "Games4Kids aims to provide children in hospitals with a bit more fun through the provision of games and gaming equipment," she says, "It was great to see the smiles on their faces and to know that we've made their day a little brighter."
The Sunshine Hospital Children's Ward cares for approximately 7,300 patients aged 0-18 years in Melbourne's West. Nurse Unit Manager Di Patterson says the gifts are greatly appreciated by staff as well as the families of patients. "Ensuring children are happy and comfortable in their environment while in hospital greatly assists in their recovery," she says, "I'm sure the children will put these new toys to good use."
