Shared Maternity Care

Shared Maternity Care is a model of care which allows women to have the majority of their antenatal visits take place in the community
with a hospital affiliated general practitioner, obstetrician or midwife.

The Shared Maternity Care Program is available to any woman with a low risk pregnancy. The woman attends Sunshine Hospital for
some antenatal visits, and attends the hospital for the birth and immediate postnatal care. Alternatively, patients enrolled in shared
maternity care may attend a community clinic for most of their 'hospital' visits. Women enrolled in Shared Maternity Care who would
like to attend a community clinic for their hospital visits can arrange this by calling the Shared Maternity Care Coordinator on phone
8345 1683 (Monday - Friday 9.00 - 4.30)

GPs and community midwives seeking accreditation to the Sunshine Hospital Shared Maternity Care Program should contact the
Shared Maternity Care Coordinator on 8345 1683, or fill in the appropriate form. Accreditation lasts from 1/1/05 - 31/12/07
