Critical Care Nursing may not be where you want to pursue your career or you may want to consolidate your general skills further. The Graduate Nurse Program can assist you in finding career opportunities in specialty as well as general ward environments. The Graduate Nurse Program will help you through our easy and efficient reapplication process when the time comes. You may want to work casually, permanent part-time or permanent full-time, all of these are possible.

Western Health recruits its Graduates as permanent employees so they are guaranteed ongoing employment upon successful completion of the program.

Ninety-six percent of our graduates chose to stay on in our Health Service after their 2010 graduate year.

Western Health understands that you want options and choices after your Graduate Nurse Program. Therefore we have developed Discovery Programs for you to discover the nursing future that's right for you.

Near the completion of your Graduate Year the GNP team will work with you through our continued recruitment process to assist you with career planning and finding the right area for your future career at Western Health. There are many options. Below we discuss the Discovery Program and Ward Recruitment.

Discovery Programs

The Discovery Program is a comprehensive professional development program aimed at supporting the Registered Nurse, Division 1, Grade 2 in the transition to working within the specialty areas.

The Discovery Program offers six month placements in the following areas:

  • Cardiac Care Unit (CCU)
  • Emergency Department
  • Intensive Care Unit (ICU)
  • Special Care Nursery & Children's Ward
  • Perioperative Urology
