Children's Outpatient Services (COPs) and Adolescent Health Service provides medical, surgical, nursing and Allied Health management and support to children/adolescents aged 0-18 years.

Our experienced clerical staff will assist parents and care-providers with information and support, ensuring ease of access to the clinic services

The clinic has a philosophy of treating and supporting families. The clinic aims to coordinate appointments reducing the number of clinic attendance. Over 12 thousand Children, Adolescent and their families access the service each year.

The Clinic provides support to medical and surgical paediatric trainees with paediatric consultant supervision. Our continuum of care clinic provides same doctor follow up from inpatient to outpatient. Providing families and children with continuum of care.

The clinic is open Monday to Friday between 8:30am and 5pm (not open Public Holidays). A referral is required and may be posted, faxed or delivered in person.

CAHS is located at Sunshine Private, Level 1, 147 Furlong Road, St Albans, Victoria, 3021 (opposite Sunshine Hospital)

Catchment Area
The service catchment includes the municipalities of: Brimbank, Hobsons Bay, Maribyrnong, Moonee Valley and Wyndham.

Service Description
The Western Health Children's Allied Health Service (CAHS) comprises a multidisciplinary team that provides an integrated paediatric and women's health service across a number of different program funding streams including:

  • Inpatient care - Special Care Nursery, Children's ward, maternity
  • Outpatient Medical and Allied Health Clinics
  • Paediatric Community Outpatients (PCO)

The CAHS team consists of the following Allied Health services:

  • Physiotherapy
  • Occupational Therapy
  • Speech Pathology
  • Dietetics
  • Neuropsychology
  • Social Work
  • Audiology

Multidisciplinary Services
Western Health Children's Allied Health Service (CAHS) provides integrated community outpatient care to  The team comprises Audiology, Dietetics, Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy, Speech Pathology and Neuropsychology. Comprehensive assessment is offered via specialist multidisciplinary assessment clinics, with ongoing intervention in the form of centre-based therapy blocks for single or multidisciplinary groups, individual or conjoint therapy. There is an emphasis on holistic family centred care, with families making informed choices and being active participants in their child's management.

Specialist multidisciplinary services are provided to babies and preschool children presenting with complex multidisciplinary and specialist needs that markedly impact upon their growth, development and ongoing capacity to function within their environment. Specific patient cohorts include (but are not limited to):

  • Global Developmental Delay
  • Autism Spectrum Disorder
  • Developmental Coordination Disorder / Dyspraxia
  • Cerebral Palsy
  • Genetic Disorders - such as Down's Syndrome
  • Acquired Brain Injury - including removal of brain tumours, stroke 
  • Secondary to Systemic Illnesses - Typically related to cardiac or respiratory disease or anomalies
  • Rare Disorders - such as osteogenesis imperfecta, myotonic dystrophy, metabolic disorders

The CAHS service also provides regular multidisciplinary assessment clinics for diagnosis of:

  • Autism Spectrum Disorder
  • Global Developmental Delay
  • Specific Learning Difficulties (Primary school age children not receiving integration funding)

Please note that the Neuropsychology Service provides assessment to preschool and primary school aged children (Kindergarten to Grade 6).

Specialist Single Discipline Services
Specialist single discipline services are provided according to the following criteria as defined for each discipline:

  • Speech Pathology: Children 0 - school entry with feeding or swallowing issues
  • Dietetics: Children 0 - 16 years
  • Physiotherapy: Children aged 0-18 months; and primary school age children not receiving integration funding
  • Occupational Therapy: Children in primary school not receiving integration funding
  • Neuropsychology: Children aged 4 - 12 years (Grade 6)

Exclusions from Service
Children that are receiving services from other government funded organisations or are eligible to receive services are not accepted for services from the Paediatric Community Outpatients stream of CAHS. This includes children attending an Early Childhood Intervention Service (ECIS), school age children or those receiving funding through the Commonwealth government Autism Initiative Funding. Some exceptions may apply.

Referral to CAHS
Referrals to Paediatric Community Outpatients are accepted from service providers within Western Health and from external agencies. 

Referrers are required to complete the Children's Allied Health Service referral form (43KB). All referrals are to be directed to:
