Oncology Service at Western Health provides for a wide range of services related to the treatment on oncological diseases. The service manages approximately 10,500 inpatient admission per year, with approximately 90% of admission attending the oncology day unit. The Oncology Service also manages approximately 3,700 outpatient attendances each year. Services include inpatient ward - 2 East, Oncology Hospital In The Home and the Oncology Day Ward, providing care to patients, across the continuum of ther treatment plan. The Western Health Oncology Services predominately manages solid tumour malignancies. The addition of the haematology consultancy service in 2007 provides additional expertise in the management of non-malignant haematological conditions for Western Health.
Cancer Services at Western Health are actively involved in teaching and research programs. The teaching program includes teaching of undergraduate and postgraduate medical personnel, nursing staff and allied health staff. The Unit is accredited by the Royal Australasian College of Physicians for training two advanced trainee registrars - Victorian Medical Oncology Training Program

Western Health Integrated Cancer Services
Western Health is a member of the Western Central Melbourne Integrated Cancer Services (WCMICS), which is one of three metropolitan, and five regional ICS established by the DHS to implement the Cancer Services Framework across Victoria.
The Framework focuses on delivering the right treatment and support to patients as early as possible and throughout their cancer.
Multidisciplinary Care
As part of the State-wide implementation of the Cancer Services Framework under the Multidisciplinary Care Project, the Victorian Department of Human Services has developed a Multidisciplinary meeting toolkit. The toolkit was developed to assist the development of multidisciplinary teams in meeting the Patient Management Frameworks set out for each tumour stream.

WCMICS has funded Hospital Administrative Co-ordinators (HAC'S) at each site. the roles of the HAC's are to assist and support cancer services in implementing the Cancer Services Frameworks at service delivery and patient care level.

LOCAL COLLABORATING TUMOUR GROUPS have been formed across the WCMICS. These groups meet every quarter via videoconference. The key objectives of these groups include: -

Gaining an understanding of the scope and pattern of cancer across the WCMICS.

Reviewing the Patient Management Frameworks (PMFs) against current practice to identify issues and gaps, and recommend projects for cancer care development across the WCMICS.

Addressing other issues as identified and agreed upon by the individual tumour group.
