The 1 West provides an excellent service to the inpatient population of Western Health. The units are proud to have a dedicated group of people working cohesively to provide a service that not only recognises the cultural diversity of the community but can also address their needs as an individual. Day Procedure Unit provides immense learning opportunities to everyone within our departments giving staff the opportunity to develop both personally and professionally.

ADMISSIONS PATIENT JOURNEY
All patient attending Western Health 1 West admitted through Emergency or patient requiring to stay longer to recovery from surgery.
Visiting Hours
Visiting hours on Ward 1 West are between 2pm & 8pm, if visitors are wanting to visit outside of these hours they are advised to speak with the nurse in charge
Admission
The patient will be met by a member of the nursing team whose role is to monitor the patient from admission to discharge and to ensure that they receive the right care whilst at Western Health.
Nursing staff will discuss with the patient their medical condition ensuring that nothing has changed significantly since the patient last admission.

WORK AREA
Ward 1 West is a 25 bed Orthopaedic ward which caters for both Elective and Emergency Orthopaedic procedures, and incorporated an adult case mix. This includes:
Total Hip Replacements
Total Knee Replacements
Shoulder Surgery
Any type of bone Fracture
Ankle Surgery
DISCHARGE PROCESS
Prior to discharge, patients will receive from the Discharge nurse their post operative care information; follow up appointments and an education pamphlet. Once the patient is ready and a friend/relative has arrived they will then be discharged. All patients should be discharged by 10am
