Western Continence Service provides a multidisciplinary
approach to the assessment and care of urinary and faecal
incontinence.
The Western Continence team includes:
- Geriatricians
- Nurses
- Physiotherapists
- Administration Support
The Service aims to promote excellence in the care of those
who experience continence problems of all types and degrees.
Self-management is promoted wherever possible and the aim
is always to improve quality of life. There is no fee involved and interpreters are always used if needed.
Where are we located?
The Service is located near the Western Community
Rehabilitation. The entrance to this is to the far right of the
main hospital entrance towards the Freeway. Enter through
the glass doors and report to reception before taking a seat
in the waiting area.
Who may use this Service?
- Anyone over 16 years of age.
- People with urinary and faecal problems.
What regions do we cover?
The cities of Brimbank, Hobson's Bay, Maribyrnong, Melton
and Wyndham.
What services do we offer?
- Continence Assessment
- Uroflowmetry and simple bladder ultrasonography
- Urodynamic investigation, including video-urodynamics
- Conservative management strategies:
- bladder retraining
- pelvic floor assessment and muscle rehabilitation (including biofeedback and electrical stimulation).
- bowel management
- toileting programs
- assessment and use of continence aids and
appliances (incl. accessing the A&EP, CAAS &
DVA schemes). - catheterisation techniques
- Surgical or other Specialist referral if appropriate.
- Advice about daily living with incontinence problems.
- Liaison with other continence services in the region.
- Liaison with other appropriate Departments ie
ACAS, APATT.
