The Booking Office at Western Health manages all elective patient bookings across Footscray, Sunshine and Williamstown Hospitals.
All patients are notified by mail when placed on the waiting list informing them of their elective surgical categorisation and expected waiting time.
Your doctor will triage your condition and indicate the specific category they wish you to be placed on the waiting list as. Please speak to your doctor at the time of consultation for further information regarding elective surgery categories.

Elective Admissions at Western Health
Access to elective surgery is provided in an equitable manner with priority for those who have the greatest clinical need
Category 1 - Urgent
Admission within 30 days is desirable for a condition that has the potential to deteriorate quickly to the point that it might become an emergency

Category 2 - Semi-Urgent
Admission within 90 days is desirable for a condition causing some pain, dysfunction or disability, but which is not likely to deteriorate quickly or become an emergency.

Category 3 - Non-Urgent
Admission at some time in the future is acceptable for a condition causing minimal or no pain, dysfunction or disability, which is unlikely to deteriorate quickly and does not have the potential to become and emergency
