Neonatal Risk Factors:
- Family history of congenital hearing loss
- Infections such as Rubella or CMV during pregnancy
- Birth asphyxia
- Birthweight below 1500 grams
- Severe jaundice (requiring an exchange transfusion or
a bilirubin level greater than 400 micromols per litre) - Congenital abnormalities of the head and neck
General:
- Inconsistent or lack of responses to sounds (voice
and others) - Speech or language delay
- Developmental delay
- Family history of congenital hearing loss
- Ongoing or severe middle ear problems
- Learning difficulties
- Behaviour problems
- Measles/mumps/meningitis
- Head injury, skull fractures
- Parental concern
