As we continue to experience significant growth in the western suburbs, it is necessary to provide the necessary facilities for effective patient care. This $40.5 million development will be the first public radiotherapy facility in the West, making a dramatic contribution to the care of local residents.
When will the radiotherapy facility be completed?
Construction of the new building commenced in late 2009 and is on schedule for completion in November this year, commencing operations in early 2011.
What will the radiotherapy facility provide?
The new facility will provide radiotherapy treatment for cancer sufferers in conjunction with the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre. These services, the first of their kind in the area, will reduce the need for public patients to travel to Geelong or East Melbourne for treatment. The new facility will house four radiotherapy bunkers and is expected to treat up to 900 patients per year.
Where can I find more information on the radiotherapy facility?
Information for residents is available at www.westernhealth.org.au. Western Health will also provide written information regularly to local residents during the construction period.
