General Surgery
Description

The General Surgery units are staffed by 17 visiting surgeons, a Chief Registrar, a Colo-Rectal Fellow, 11 college appointed and 9 hospital appointed registrars/SHMOs. Registrars rotate through General Breast and Endocrine, Upper GI, Colo-Rectal, Williamstown General and Sunshine General Surgery. Operating theatres are sited at all three campuses of the network (Footscray, Sunshine and Williamstown) and senior registrars are rotated to Goulburn Valley, Werribee Mercy and Western Private hospitals.

The department has the following positions available in 2009:

Chief Surgical Registrar - 1 x position.
Hospital Appointed Gen Surg Registrar/Senior HMO - 9 x  positions
                              Suitable for trainees wanting to gain experience prior to acceptance into an accredited position. Candidates
                              will rotate through all General Surgery terms and Plastics. Rotations will include some relief and night cover
                              at Sunshine and Footscray Hospitals.

Plastic Surgery
Description

The Plastics Department at Western Health is staffed by 11 VMO Plastic Surgeons and 4 registrars. The registrars include two (2) College appointed position, one (1) advanced general surgery trainee (2 x 6 month rotations) one surgical SHMO position (4 x 3 month rotations) and two hospital appointed 12 month position in plastic surgery.

The department has the following positions available in 2009:

Hospital Appointed Plastics Registrar2 x position 
                               (Suitable for a surgical trainee who is wanting more experience prior to an accredited position)

Description

Paediatric General/Urology Surgery
Description

The Urology unit with six (6) consultant surgeons provides specialised services for paediatric urology patients, both elective and emergency. In addition, the unit undertakes a large workload of general surgery.

Otolaryngology and Head & Neck Surgery
Description

The Otolaryngology and Head & Neck Surgery Unit are staffed by 9 VMO Surgeons and a Fellow in Head and Neck Surgery, and an Accredited Otolaryngology Registrar who is selected by the College.

Orthopaedics
Description

The Orthopaedic Department at Western Health is a busy service treating both Adult and Paediatric elective and emergency presentations.  The Service covers the 3 Campuses and is serviced by 9 VMO Surgeons, 7 Registrars and 4 HMOs and an Intern.  The Registrars comprise; 2 Accredited Advanced Trainees across Sunshine and Footscray Campus - selected by the College; 1 Accredited Trainee rotating to Warnambool  - selected by the College and 3 Unaccredited Registrars. 
The department has the following Positions available in 2009 .
