| Description |
The General Surgery Unit is staffed by 17 visiting surgeons, a Chief Registrar, Fellow in General Surgery, Fellow in Colo-Rectal, 11 college appointed and 7 hospital appointed registrars/SHMOs. Registrars rotate through General Breast and Endocrine, Upper GI, Colo-Rectal, Williamstown General and Sunshine General and Plastics. Operating theatres are sited at all three campuses of the network (Footscray, Sunshine and Williamstown) and senior registrars are rotated to Goulburn Valley, Werribee Mercy and Western Private hospitals. The role of the Chief Surgical Registrar is to provide leadership to the Junior Medical Staff and assists in the coordination of education and training, and the dissemination of information relating to Western Health and the RACS, in addition to his or her clinical duties. The Chief Surgical Registrar represents JMS interests by acting as a representative on committees such as the JMS Operations Management Committee, the JMS Post Graduate Medical Education Committee, Adverse Outcomes Committee and other relevant working parties. The Chief Surgical Registrar also participates in the recruitment and interviewing of interns and HMO applicants for the following year and assists in assigning appropriate rotations. | Description |
This position is based at Sunshine Hospital and the successful applicant will provide leadership and support to junior medical staff of the general medical units (predominantly basic physician trainees) as well as training and providing consultancy in Endocrinology, Women's Health (diabetes in pregnancy, bone and mineral metabolism) and Obstetric Medicine. This is an ideal position for those wanting to pursue a career in endocrinology with an emphasis on Women's Health and Obstetric Medicine. Applications are sought from suitability qualified Advanced Trainees for the position of Chief Registrar - General Medicine. The successful candidate will provide leadership and support to Junior Medical Staff including particularly the Basic Physician Trainees. They will assist the Senior staff in providing excellence in Clinical Care and administration of the Service. There are opportunities including projects for candidates training in General Medicine or in dual training in general Medicine and Subspecialty medicine.
