Anaesthesia and Pain Management


 

Description

The Staff of the Department of Anaesthesia and Pain Management at Western Health, provide services for approximately 25,000 Surgical procedures and 4,000 deliveries a year. With the exception of Cardiac, all surgical specialities are represented. In addition, the Anaesthetic Department runs a busy acute and chronic pain service, teaching program and is actively involved in ongoing research and audit.

The Department employs 21 Registrars at any one time - rotating through the Western Health, Royal Melbourne and Austin Hospitals, Obstetric and Paediatric Anaesthetic Training (OPAT) Scheme and Intensive Care and Emergency Medicine Training Schemes.

The Western Anaesthetic training scheme has rotations to Goulburn Valley and Royal Melbourne Hospital.

The department has the following positions available for the year 2010:

Registrars (ATY1+ or equivalent) - 3x Positions (suitable for a Advanced Trainees)

Registrars (BTY1+ or equivalent)4 x Positions (suitable for Basic Trainees)

Registrar (Anaesthetic / ICU Rotation) - 2 x Positions (6 months Anaesthetics and 6 months Intensive Care).  Suitable for Intensive Care Trainees requiring Anaesthetic experience.

HMO - 4 HMO3+ positions rotating through Anaesthetics, Intensive Care Unit, Emergency Department and nights/relieving for 3 month Terms and 8 HMO2 positions with 6-8 weeks Anaesthetics each.  HMOs interested in a rotation through Anaesthetics are directed to the HMO2 and HMO3 Sites.
