Nursing and Midwifery at Western Health

Wendy-Calder.jpgWelcome to Nursing and Midwifery at Western Health. We provide support and development opportunities to over 2000 nurses and midwives, and a state-of-the-art teaching, training and research centre due to open at Sunshine Hospital at the end of 2010/early 2011 will transform Western Health into a major provider of education and training opportunities for current and future health care professionals.

Western Health has three acute facilities, Western Hospital, Sunshine Hospital and Williamstown Hospital as well as two residential aged care facilities, Reg Geary House and Hazeldean Nursing Home. Soon, a new day hospital at Sunbury will commence operation.  This provides our staff with wonderful opportunities to work at more than one campus and gain experience, skills and expertise in more than one specialty or area of nursing, in addition to offering career pathways that can be tailored to an individual's needs.

We are proud of the terrific teamwork that exists within Western Health and the care that we provide to our patients, which is underpinned by the Western Health values: Compassion, Accountability, Respect, Excellence and Safety.

A number of our nurses and midwives have been recognised at State and National levels for their excellence in care and focus on meeting our patients' needs. We celebrate and applaud their achievements and commitment. We value and acknowledge the vital role our staff play in responding to the needs of our culturally diverse community, as we strive to continually develop our nursing practice and develop innovative models of care.
