GP Advisor
Dr Jo Silva commenced as the GP Advisor to the General Practice Liaison unit in October 2009. Jo has worked as a GP in Melbourne's West for the last 10 years, and currently practices in Point Cook. Jo completed her hospital training at Footscray Hospital so has a long association with Western Health, and is a previous Chairperson of PivotWest (formerly Western Melbourne Division of General Practice).
Jo provides advice to Western Health on general practice matters and is also available to advise GPs about Western Health services, including communication, access or difficulties using the health service.

General Practice Liaison Coordinator
Bianca Bell also started with the General Practice Liaison Unit in October 2009. Bianca has a background in nursing and health promotion and has been working in general practice education for several years including at the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners and the Cancer Council Victoria's General Practice Program.
Working collaboratively with GP stakeholders across the region and across all Western Health services, the General Practice Liaison Coordinator is responsible for the ongoing development and delivery of Western Health's General Practice Liaison Unit plan.

Western Health's General Practice Liaison Unit
The General Practice Liaison Unit (GPLU) is responsible for delivering activities to support and strengthen the interface between Western Health and general practitioners (GPs). Some of these activities include:
- The Western Health Service Directory
- Assistance for GPs to access hospital services
- Education opportunities for GPs and practice staff
- Improving communication between the health service and GPs, including notifications to GPs
- Regular GPLU newsletters
- Advice to health service staff on issues relating to general practice and education for hospital medical officers
- The GP Training model, in conjunction with the VMA, to recruit and retain GPs to the western metropolitan area
- An annual cricket match between local GPs and Western Health staff
