Graduate Midwife Program

PROGRAM STRUCTURE

Admission

  • Registered Nurse (Division 1) endorsed midwife who holds a current practicing certificate with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
  • Interview
  • Meet the selection criteria

Selection Criteria

  • Registered Nurse with a current state practicing certificate (endorsed midwife)
  • Less than one year clinical experience in Midwifery care
  • Demonstrate an understanding of commitment to successfully complete the program

Duration of the Program

  • 52 week program will consist of planned maternity care placements across the continuum of pregnancy, Early Parenting Period and Special Care Nursery
  • Full time or Part time positions available

Leave Entitlements

  • Total five (5) weeks (part time employee)
  • Total six (6) weeks (full time employee)
  • Leave negotiated with Team Leader
  • Graduates will be eligible to self roster

Employment Status

  • Participants will be employed on a 12-month contract
  • Rates of pay will be negotiated in accordance with the Registered Nurses Award
  • Leave other than annual leave/sick leave will be in accordance with the Registered Nurses Award

Night Duty

  • Graduates will be required to complete at least two weeks of night duty.

PROGRAM AIM

 

Western Health's Graduate Midwife Program aims to be stimulating, rewarding and a positive consolidation of practice as a professional Endorsed Midwife.


We are committed to the facilitation of the continuing development of the beginning practitioner in a learning organisation. Supported by the clinical expertise of colleagues, mentors and a structured education program.

This program consists of study sessions which focus on clinical decision making, the management of women throughout the continuum of care and professional practice.

 

GMP INFORMATION SESSIONS

 

Date: 10 July 2012 at 1600 to 1800

Venue: Auditorium, WCHRE Building, Level 1, Sunshine Hospital

Bookings are not required. We will meet you in the hospital foyer and escort you to the function room.

 

Life as a New Graduate


Date: 5 July 2012 at 1800

Venue: Royal Women's Hospital
