The CCU Discovery Program is designed for Division 1 Registered Nurses wishing to gain clinical experience in Cardiac Nursing. The program combines theoretical knowledge and clinical experience in a supported and dynamic environment over a 6-month period.
Western Health CCU is an integrated unit supported by a 24-hour acute angioplasty service. You will be involved in the clinical management of the acute STEMI patient as well as patients with acute heart failure and arrhythmias with haemodynamic instability.
Participants are given an extensive orientation to the cardiac care environment with the clinical nurse educators. All the nursing staff in CCU are very keen to support you along your journey. The program involves 5 supernumery days, 4 formal study days and a supernumery day in the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory. Learning packages and a clinical hurdle are included to facilitate your learning. Following successful completion of the program, participants can apply for 20 credit points towards the Postgraduate Diploma in Cardiac Nursing with Latrobe University.
